The Centre of Excellence for Dematerialization of Transactions
CEDT – The Centre of Excellence in Dematerialization of Transactions is a private non-profit association established in May 2008 with the joint support of Information and Communication Technologies companies’ (ICT) playing a leading role in the domain of Dematerialization of Transactions and within entities from the National Scientific and Technological System, as well as other public and private actors. The shared goals assure a productive collaboration and the accomplishment of important initiatives in various areas of competence.

CEDT project began during an initiative promoted by COTEC Portugal under the name Minho Software Pole. The initiative came within the scope of local Innovation Poles (well-identified and deserving to be reinforced and dynamized), mainly in the areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The University of Minho, INESC Porto and six software companies became involved, all coming from the North of Portugal and standing out for their strong potential for growth and innovation: Cachapuz, Enabler Wipro, MobiComp, Primavera BSS, We Do Technologies and Wintouch.

Constituted as a consortium IN July 2006, CEDT was initially under the rule of COTEC Portugal and working within the framework that generated the recognized Excellence Centres funded by the Operational Programme for the Knowledge Society (from QCA III) and by the Agency for Innovation (ADI).  At its core, the programme was developing net platforms and defining new excellence paradigms with a strong IT and Communications’ component. It was allowing the development of innovation and of intensive knowledge clusters, while enhancing the economic and social tissue productivity and profitability.

In May 2008, CEDT was registered as a new legal entity - a collective person with no lucrative ends -, centering around the development and dynamization of a net of competences and providing profound knowledge in dematerialization of transactions at a national scale, with special focus on the participation of leading companies in Dematerialization of Transactions and entities of the National Scientific and Technological System.

At an early stage, the group of founders gained eight new associates. Each new partner was a leading firm in Portugal in the field of Dematerialization of Transactions: CreativeSystems, CTT Correios of Portugal, ISA, Microfil, PT Inovation, QuiiQ, SIBS and Via Verde Portugal.
